Mini has established a history of introducing new models first as lightly disguised concept cars and then in production format that makes it difficult to discern which is the fantasy and which is the reality. At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, the Mini Clubman Concept debuts, foreshadowing a distinct departure from the current Cooper Clubman model and signaling greater separation from the Cooper lineup in terms of size and styling. Mini says the new Clubman will seat five passengers. Decked out in lavish concept car materials, the Clubman Concept's dashboard is a departure from the new Mini Cooper Hardtop, designed to appear as though it is hovering beneath the windshield. Classic round gauges convey information to the driver, and the center-mounted infotainment system features new haptic-feedback "intelligent" toggle switches that the driver can program based on personal preferences. Door armrests conceal storage areas, and Mini employs indirect lighting to highlight and magnify elements of the Clubman Concept's cabin. |
